Goals and Objectives
Students will learn about the lasting impact of the 1929 Stock Market Crash, through the reasoning of program implementation to provide aide and restoration. Students will distinguish the differences of the presidential policies of Hoover and Roosevelt during the years of the Great Depression.

Lesson Introduction
Political Cartoon Analysis
Encourage students to discuss what is occurring within the political cartoon. Have students record their responses in their course journals for future reference or to review a big idea previously learned. Have students respond to the following questions: What is the message the cartoonist is attempting to display? Why would the cartoonist choose to display this message in this fashion?

Content Delivery
The teacher will present a lecture to the class, discussing the presidential appointments of Hoover and Roosevelt and their attempts to contain the ongoing worry of the Great Depression. With exploration of the policies and programs initiated under Roosevelt's New Deal, this lecture will aim to provide students with insight into just how difficult the Great Depression was, and the importance of these programs, some of which are still in place today.
Student Engagement
During the Lecture, students will be provided with a copy of guided notes to be completed. Within these guided notes will be a chart encouraging students distinguish the differences in presidential policy and approaches taken with handling the Great Depression. In addition to, a copy of the key vocabulary terms will also be provided in which the students will record their definitions accordingly.
Lesson Closure
Whip Around fueled by particular topics such as Hoover's attempts to restore balance in the U.S. following the Great Depression, Roosevelt's attempts, and the responses by the American people.

Student Assessment
Students create a Venn Diagram/ Compare-Contrast of the Policies and attempts to restore balance for both Hoover and Roosevelt. Present information to the class on their findings, exploit outside resources, databases, websites, etc.
Accomodations for English Language Learners, Striving Readers, and Students with Special Needs
An accommodation for ELL’s and those struggling with concepts and linguistic adaptations will be provided a written manuscript of FDR’s fireside chat as heard in course lecture. In addition to the provision of the written manuscript, these students will also be provided the key terms and vocabulary with additional information provided (i.e. context of use, demonstration of explanation, etc.)
